Listen to Someone Else Say Something Important
We have something to share with the world and more than any other time in history, an outlet to share it. Today, Jesus reminded me of this. Every day, there are dozens of people like me; people who have something to say, wanting to inspire, encourage, educate, share their art, share a truth, or cause others to think or act. Every day, people are pouring out their hearts in earnest, saying what is important to them and/or what they feel called to share.
If it is not a cute or clever quote, a funny clip, or something to incite anger, it probably isn’t being read- except by a few loved ones. It requires time to stop, to shift one’s mindset, and to get serious for a moment. If you post daily messages, sometimes it may feel like you have hundreds of FB “friends” and yet feel lonelier than ever; or at least like you are not being heard. Be encouraged. Continue sharing the important
message that God has placed on your heart. It is very likely making a difference. Maybe others just aren’t publicly saying so.
In addition, take a bit of time to listen to someone else say something important. One of those long (wordy) posts with no eye-catching pics of memes, stop to read it. Take a moment to hear their heart. You won’t have time to read all of them. And I’m not saying you’ll always agree with what they are saying, but as a writer, artist, content creator, and avid poster, you can respect their efforts. And there is nothing wrong with a healthy debate or discussion. Years ago I read a book that spoke about this old lady whose striving was to always stir up a debate. For her, a healthy respectful debate was an opportunity to challenge one another’s assumptions, to cause one another to think, to grow, and to become better people. So read, listen to what is being said and the spirit behind it. And to make it more meaningful for you both, take a moment to respond thoughtfully. It can be short, but say something that takes thought.
If you read this post, thank you for listening.
