Keep it Simple
My Digital Math teacher was the first person I ever heard talk about the KISS method. He would say, “Keep it simple, stupid.” Well, I’m not sure I agree with the “stupid” part, but the point is well taken. We have a tendency to complicate things.
In this mornings devotion, I studies Matthew 22:37-40. It says, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Everything comes down to those two things. Love God (Jesus) and love people. I immediately began singing the lyrics to a song that was on my heart quite frequently earlier this year. It’s called, “Love God Love People” by Danny Goeky. It says, “Gotta keep it real simple; keep it real simple. Bring everything back to ground zero. Cause it all
comes down to this; Love God Love People (People).”
Whenever I get overwhelmed with my to-do list or my hopes, desires, dreams, plans, and efforts; Jesus always brings me back to this. What’s the bottom line- the end goal? I daily end my prayer with “…for Your joy and glory.” For me, it helps bring me back to what’s important.
The decisions we make, we make according to the Word of God and for the glory of God. When it involves other people, we consider the impact. In fact, there are very few decisions we make that don’t have some affect on other people. Whether we signed up for it or not; whether we like it or not; people watch us. We have influence- whether positive or negative. We make people feel a certain way or think a certain way. Some of us are thinking, “…why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?” 1 Cor 10:29b. Why should I be held responsible for what other people think or where they are in their understanding about things? Well, God said so. We just read it. We don’t get to just say, “I’m going to do me.”
Our actions tell a story about who we are and whose we are. How we treat people tells a story about who we are and whose we are. Let’s keep it that simple: love God and love people. And may our hearts be blessed (happy) in doing so.
