Let's Not Get Over On Others

Let’s not get-over over on others, whether as an employee of a company or a business owner.

“Treasures of wickedness and ill-gotten gains do not profit, but righteousness and moral integrity in daily life rescues from death” (Prov 10:2 AMP). As an employee, we are paid to do a job and to meet business expectations. If we spend paid time doing personal work, conducting our side hustles, doing sub-par work, avoiding work, or stealing resources; our pay has been ill-gotten.

As a business owner, false and misleading advertising, as well as tricks and gimmicks, may be lucrative for a time. But these ill-gotten gains don’t profit in any lasting way and aren’t of any eternal value. When conducting the business of filing taxes, the same thing applies. Regardless as to how we feel about our tax system, it does not pay to try to get over. We have to do what is ethically and biblically right; obey the law of the land.

It’s easy to make excuses as to why we spend significant amounts of company time doing personal tasks; believe we can handle two businesses simultaneously without adversely affecting either one; or to say we aren’t being deceitful- just being creative. It’s easy to play the odds, believing there’s a good chance you won’t get caught. And if we do get caught, we’ll just say (insert lie here).  But, nobody gets over on God; we reap what we sow. We can be sure Jesus will not bless our actions.

And money is not the blessing; for many rich people (with treasures of wickedness and ill-gotten gains) die lonely and alone.

Meanwhile, when we do things in a right way (righteous way) that “rescues us from death.” Our wealth may not come as quickly as a scheme; but it will come in a way that reflects wisdom and integrity. More importantly, our right actions (done according to the Word of God and for the glory of God), will always work for our good- now and in the end. It “recues from death” and is of eternal value.

Let’s not make excuses. Let’s conduct ourselves with integrity- especially as women of God.

I would love to hear your thoughts.
